It is said that "Small
opportunities are the beginning of great enterprises". Navjoythi
Seva Samithi is an organisation of the people, by the people and
for the people.. Navjyothi Seva Samithi was started in the year
1995 by Mr. T.K.Joseph, a post graduate in Sociology, whose aim
was to work for the upliftment for those who live on the fringes
of our society.
He took up the role of a social worker in the slums of Durga Nagar
near Tambaram, Tamilnadu, India, where the majority of the population
was daily wage labourers, petty vendors, house-maids who struggled
to make both ends meet. The place was a breeding ground for anti
social activities like drug addiction, prostitution and child
abuse.
His heart was fired with much passion
for the poor, that he decided to shift his residence along with
his family to live closer to the people whom he decided to serve.
Soon many people, who were initially suspicious and hostile, came
forward with open minds, willing hand and loving hearts to make
sure that they were not left behind in doing what becomes the
bounded duty of every good citizen to give a supporting hand for
the cause of the under privileged.
In 1998, with the help of a few
philanthropists living in and around Tambaram, a Trust was formed
and was duly registered as a Public Charitable Trust vide Reg
No.582/98, with tax exemptions u/s 80G of the Income Tax Act,
1961. |
